I have just discovered that Ron Kay of Irregular Miniatures has died at the age of 98. He was full time on the team until 93, casting figures for all us hobbyists. He carried on as a part time member of the team still handling the big and complex castings. “Hats off” as they say.
I did not know Ron personally but seem to remember him at the Irregular stand at wargames shows.
I can do best by sharing some of my Irregular Miniatures collection and sending my condolences to Ian Kay and the Irregular family.
Irregular have provided me with some great 20mm figures that helped me build my 1848 forces.

A sad loss! Nice to see your pics of Irregular figures again! The bulk of my 25mm Ming Chinese army is Irregular, along with smatterings of 20mm figures throughout my armies (although my WW1 Austrians are actually painted as WW1 Austrians)!

Thanks John, Irregular have offered a rich and diverse figure range and the sculpture is one I like – no bloated or over fed looks. Being an involved family business it must be doubly hard to lose a loved one as well.

I have purchased much from Irregular down the years and had conversed a lot with Ron and Ian. Ron was a real gentlemen and a sad loss to our community.

A sad loss to our community. I too have a large collection of “Irregulars” and have always enjoyed their sculpts. Ron was always great to have a chat with and offered excellent advice.
Valet Ron!

Wow matey that’s a long career, it must have been his love for the hobby that gave him such a long and fruitful life.
I don’t know this company so it was great to see the fine figures they produce, cheers mate ant thanks for the post.

Thanks Pat,
Irregular are the classic family business and over the years have offered an intriguing range of metal figures and models. They have moved with each fashion yet retained their style. I like the slender styles they do although some ranges are fuller – i probably would have gone with their 28mm Italian independence wars range had I not headed down a 20/25mm hole. They have always been very friendly and helpful – for me that goes a long way – I think they taught quite a few people “how to do it” maybe the man behind eureka miniatures for example in your neck of the woods ?

That’s interesting mate, I have to say I to stick with the friendly helpful folk as it makes life not only easier but a bit of fun to. I’ll have to have a look at the eureka guy, very Aussie name as it’s the only uprising we have had of any significance, and just like us Aussies it started with the burning of a pub😉.

Thanks Pat – I may be wrong but there was an article about eureka and I think it mentioned irregular? Yes there is nothing like fun and friendliness to keep the hobby going.

I looked up eureka miniatures and funnily enough they aren’t too far from where one of our daughters lives so next time we go down to Melbourne I will have to pop in and have gander👍🏻.
