I never got a badge before

Real life has taken centre stage for the last month or so but fortunately I managed to participate in the forgotten heroes challenge beforehand.

I managed two entries.

I posted about Flora Sandes British WW1 heroine….

I also posted about my take on the dreaded Lokans, a childhood memory from Ranger/Look & Learn magazine SciFi fantasy adventure cartoon strip stories.

It was all good fun and I enjoyed this particular painting challenge.

Into the bargain I got a badge from Jez and Roger the organisers who have achieved ten years of running this particular painting challenge.

The one that got away was mucking about with early civil war uniforms in 1/72

One Friedrich Hecker – who raising early war volunteer Union regiments might have worn both blue and gray depending upon the quartermasters stores.

Now it’s back to real life but hopefully some season of scenery fun too.

June is for Forgotten Heroes

Forgotten heroes (when I discovered and read the brief) begs some thought before putting paint on a figure.

I mentioned I had ideas for this June challenge on Carrion Crows blog post.

First up is one idea which has appeared to me in many previous painting challenges but I failed to act on.

Flora Sandes left the uk as a volunteer nurse to support the war against the German Empire directly. Her story is revealed here

Wikipedia carries an entry as well and probably the most commonly shown photo of Flora Sandes.

Her unique position is being the only female British woman to have officially served as a soldier in World War One.

I think Flora could be classed as a forgotten hero.
